Hybrid systems are suitable for both an upcoming boiler replacement and for retrofitting an existing boiler. Comprising a heat pump outdoor unit, a conventional peak load boiler and a hybrid hydraulic assembly with a hybrid manager, they offer the best of all worlds.

When the old gas heating in our unrenovated single-family house stopped working, we were looking for an environmentally friendly, future-proof solution that would fit in our small basement. As we only planned to have an energy-oriented refurbishment in a few years' time, installing a pure heat pump system was still out of the question. We've found a flexible solution in the Logamax plus GBH172i. We can use gas in the short term, integrate a hybrid system, and, later on, convert to heat pump operation from a single energy source.

We live in a small joint ownership community and our old heating system was outdated, maintenance-intensive and inefficient, which led to high running costs. As we wanted to reduce our heating costs and to have an environmentally friendly heating system, we chose a Logano plus KB182i – a modern combination of a floor-standing gas-condensing boiler and a heat pump. The heat pump supplies the base load and, on cold days, the floor-standing gas-condensing boiler provides support as a conventional peak load heat generator. This allowed us to immediately save energy and to reduce CO2 emissions, while also buying ourselves time to implement additional renovation measures for the building in the near future.

Outdoor units for the Logano plus GB125 and GB212

The Logano plus GB125 floor-standing gas-condensing boiler (from V3 to 35 kW) and the Logano plus GB212 15 to 50 W) can be retrofitted with the latest Buderus heat pumps, the Logatherm WLW MB AR series from 5 to 12 kW. Environmentally friendly with the natural R290 refrigerant; space-saving and super-silent thanks to SILENT plus technology. The Logatherm WLW186i AR, one of the suitable indoor units, was a test-winner and was awarded an overall rating of "good" (2.3) by Stiftung Warentest.

The HYC40B was developed in-house for the Logano plus GB125 and connects the boiler to an outdoor unit. In the process, the HYC40B hydraulic assembly is installed behind the boiler and is practically out of sight. Finally, and very typically of a Buderus hybrid system – you don't need an indoor unit and the entire system can be controlled with the well-known RC310!
