The housing stock in Germany is very varied. Greatly simplified, it can be divided into unrenovated, partially renovated and fully renovated buildings.

  • only approx. 13 % is considered to be fully renovated and approx. 87 % is considered to be requiring renovation or partial renovation
  • there is a large stock of single-family and two-family houses with high heat demand (up to more than 200 kWh/m2*a) and flow temperatures above 55 °C

Situation: An older single-family house.

The unrenovated single-family house is equipped with gas heating with a solar thermal system and a buffer cylinder. The gas heat generator is now defective and the customer would like a quick, but future-oriented solution for their system. The buffer cylinder and the solar thermal system should continue to be used. To reduce energy costs, the customer wants to carry out renovation work (windows and façade) at a later time and in several steps.

Heat pump hybrid systems, such as the combination of an WLW MB A H heat pump outdoor unit with the Logamax plus GBH192i, enable customers to gradually increase the proportion of renewable energy used by the heating system from 65 % to up to 100 % as part of a targeted, customised renovation roadmap for the existing building – for a carbon-neutral heating system by 2045 at the latest. The fact that the necessary investment is stretched over time means that the home-owner is not financially overburdened and can still considerably reduce their energy costs and CO2 emissions in the short term.
